UK house prices fell again in March, and the decline was particularly marked in the North East, where house prices are now falling annually.

Official Land Registry data, which runs slightly behind because it uses price paid as opposed to asking price, showed average house prices in the North East fell 0.4 per cent between February and March to £97,444. This pushed average house prices down 2.9 per cent year-on-year.

And average house prices across the UK as a whole fell 0.8 per cent between February and March to £178,007.

They fell monthly in the East Midlands, Yorkshire and The Humber, West Midlands, South West, England and Wales, North West, East, Wales and North East.

In fact, house prices only rose on a monthly basis in the South East and London - by 0.8 per cent and 0.2 per cent respectively.
