It's all kicking off in the Olympic Park – the ArcelorMittal Orbit has finally been turned into a giant helter skelter and now there are plans for a new 'culture quarter' in the park. The London Legacy Development Corporation has released pictures to mark the four-year anniversary of the Olympic opening ceremony and carry on the much-hyped Olympic legacy (remember that?).
The Cultural and Education District (as they're calling it) will be split into two sites: the Stratford Waterfront and UCL East, which will be a new campus for the university. The waterfront site includes a new V&A museum, billed as a museum 'for the digital age', a 550-seat auditorium for Sadler’s Wells, a new campus for UAL’s London College of Fashion and a residential development.
The plans will be developed before a planning application is submitted at the end of the year. If it gets the green light, work could start on the Stratford waterfront in 2018 and be ready to open to the public by 2020/21.
